I live in California, where a family leave law protects parents from taking time off their job to care for their newborn child. It gives them paid family leave, giving moms and dads paid time off to be with their babies.
In New York state, this isn’t the law, and the blog Fathers, Work and Family is working to change this by supporting a petition to provide up to 12 weeks of paid time off to New Yorkers.

It seems like a no-brainer to give parents paid time off from work to care for a child or seriously ill family member. But its now the law in New York state, and it should be.
